Space Product Testing

COM DEV International has a lengthy history of manufacturing and testing components for military customers. We have added to that capability with test equipment allowing the in-house testing of many of the demanding electrical and environmental conditions specified for space-based components and subsystems. 

RF Testing Capabilities  

S Parameters

  • Vector Network Analysers - 2 port and 4 port
  • DC to > 50GHz
  • Automatic data Capture through PC link and integration with Labview Software.
  • Presentation of results in various formats: s2p, s3p, citi files or plots as JPEG, PNG etc.



  • Radiated Emission
  • Radiated Susceptibility
  • Spectrum Analyser and RF Synthesised source to cover DC to 40GHz 
  • Example: -80dBi at X- Band


Glitch Testing

  • Automatic test though PC control.
  • 4 Channels
  • To detect and record glitches (i.e. sudden changes in the insertion loss of the UUT’s) with amplitudes of > 0.05dB and durations of at least 100 msec as the UUT’s are subjected to changes in temperature. 
  • Oven is water cooled type for fast ramp.


RF Power and Intermodulation Distortion

  • Pairs of amplifiers are availble for testing in the following frequency bands and power levels:

                           - 500 W      200-500MHz

                           - 300W       825-2300MHz

                           - 100W       2.5-2.8GHz          

  • PC controlled for automated testing and recording of results.



ESS Capabilities

Testing at High and Low Temperature
  • Numerous Votsch Climatic Chambers -40°C to +130°C.
  • ATE controlled, holding preset dwells and automatically saving s2p files.
  • Overlay plots can be generated to show drift. COM DEV International Software calculates gradient with frequency and over temperature.


Rapid Change of Temperature and Thermal Shock

  • ACS Thermal Shock Chamber
  • MESL have a programmable dual chamber oven with <5-second transit times from hot to cold.
  • Temperature range is -90°C to +180°C


Sinusoidal Vibration, Mechanical Shock and Bump
  • Data Physics Vibration Systems
  • Typically MIL-STD-202G, Method 204D
  • Test Conditions A, B, C, D, E, G
  • Shaker Control Limitations:

                    -  Frequency Range 5 to 2000Hz

                     - Max. Shaker Displacement 50.8mm

                     - Max. Shaker Velocity 1700mm/s

Further afield within the UK there are test facilities available for CSAM (Scanning Acoustic Microscopy) for non-destructive failure analysis testing.
